Rough Cut Evaluation UNFINSHED

Thriller Rough Cut

Unknown character peering through the window
Character from Essex Boys looking through car window
What are you pleased about? I am pleased with many aspects of our thriller opening; one being the lighting effect. To create a party 'feel' we wanted a strobe light throughout. However, we didn't have one and so we thought that the best way to create this was to flicker the light switch on and off. At first we were unsure about how it would look and thought that it might make it look impotent and ineffective. However, when we put all the clips together, sped it up and changed the colouring, the strobe effect worked. I'm also very pleased with some of the shots and camera angles that. One shot that I am especially happy with is at 0.57 of the unknown character peering through the window. It's a similar shot to one in Essex Boys when.... they both indicate danger. Overall, I'm pleased with the outcome of our thriller opening rough cut as we thought that it would be a very challenging storyline to film and put together. We also had doubts that our story line would be too hard to film and edit without making it confusing and almost changed our whole idea. Nevertheless, we were able to make the story line easy to understand and follow which we were pleased with because we thought it would be a challenge to create, overall.

What needs improving? The rough cut of our thriller opening exceeds the two minute limit so to improve this, we should adjust it to fit the correct time. We could do this by making the opening credits fit over the first few opening scenes instead of at the end as it takes up lots of time. Also, we realised that at 2:02 the credits don't look very formal and looks quite childish and silly which is what we don't want as our thriller is a serious story line which occurs in reality too. We originally wanted our credit's font to be that bright green/yellow colour to match the colour of the font in the party's poster at the beginning. However, we then realised that the poster scene is right at the beginning and the credits are right at the end and the length of the opening (two minutes) is a long time to make such a connection between the two and will easily go unnoticed.
